The top 20 percentile cut-off marks are a key eligibility criterion for candidates aspiring to secure admission in IITs through JEE Advanced 2024. This section explains the process of determining these cut-off marks and what candidates need to be aware of to meet this requirement.
The category-wise cut-off marks for the top 20 percentile are calculated based on the marks scored by successful candidates who appeared in their respective boards for all the required subjects in the particular year. This ensures that the cut-off is reflective of the overall performance of candidates within each category.
For PwD candidates, the cut-off marks will be the same as the lowest of the cut-off marks for GEN, OBC-NCL, SC, and ST categories, ensuring fairness and accessibility for all candidates.
The top 20 percentile cut-off for the academic year 2023–24 will be determined based on the successful candidates who appeared in the Class XII (or equivalent) examination in 2024. Similarly, the top 20 percentile cut-off for the academic year 2022–23 will be determined based on the successful candidates who appeared in the Class XII (or equivalent) examination in 2023.
Candidates who first appeared in Class XII (or equivalent) examination in 2023 and wish to reappear in 2024 to qualify through the top 20 percentile cut-off criteria must reappear in all subjects. For such candidates, the top 20 percentile cut-off for 2024 will be applicable.
In cases where a Board does not provide information about the top 20 percentile cut-off, candidates are required to produce a certificate from the respective Board (in the format provided in the Annexure) stating that they fall within the top 20 percentile of successful candidates. If a candidate fails to provide this certificate, the cut-off marks of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in the respective categories will be used.
The above guidelines also apply to candidates who first appeared for their Class XII examination in 2022, but whose examination Board declared the results for the academic year 2021-22 on or after September 21, 2022.
Understanding and meeting the top 20 percentile cut-off marks is crucial for eligibility in IIT admissions through JEE Advanced 2024. Candidates must carefully review their Board's cut-off criteria and ensure they meet the required standards to qualify for admission.
