KCET (engineering) is an OMR test by the Karnataka Examinations Authority over Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics — 60 questions per subject (180 marks), 80 minutes each, one mark per correct answer and no negative marking. The final engineering rank is 50% normalised KCET score + 50% Class 12 (II PUC) PCM percentage, so board marks are equally important.
In KCET, your All India Rank is decided by your marks relative to everyone else, so the marks needed for a given rank move every year with paper difficulty. At the top of the scale a few extra marks can be worth thousands of ranks, while lower down the curve flattens. KCET combines your II PUC PCM percentage (50%) and your KCET score (50%): both are converted to percentages, averaged and ranked. So equal CET marks can yield different ranks depending on board performance. Use the year-wise tables below to compare your target marks against the closest matching cycle rather than a single fixed chart.
Here is the year-wise KCET trend so you can compare your target against the closest recent cycle. Table is on a CET-marks basis (out of 180, PCM). The final KCET admission rank blends CET marks 50% with Class 12 / II PUC board marks 50%, so identical CET marks can give different final ranks depending on board scores.

How is the KCET engineering rank calculated?
KCET rank uses 50:50 weightage — 50% from your II PUC PCM percentage and 50% from your KCET score. Both are converted to percentages and averaged.
Does KCET have negative marking?
No. Attempt every question; each correct answer carries one mark across Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics for 180 marks.
What rank for CSE at RVCE?
CSE at RVCE is the most competitive seat in Karnataka, with a General closing rank roughly 234–500 recently — you need to be in about the top 500.
What raw KCET score gives a top rank?
Rank 1 was about 175/180; the top 10–20 needed ~166–168; ranks 41–50 needed ~158–161; 148+ landed within the top 100.
Why do two students with the same marks get different ranks?
Because board marks contribute 50%. Identical KCET scores but different II PUC percentages produce different ranks.
What is a good KCET score and rank?
Above 120/180 is good and above 160 very good. Top 5,000 is very good, 5,000–20,000 good, 20,000–50,000 average for reputable institutions.
