Ultimate guide for ICAR PG aspirants covering specialized subject strategy, JRF marking scheme, and NTA's mandatory dress code.

The ICAR PG exam is a highly specialized test based on your chosen Major Subject Group. Unlike the UG version, questions here range from basic concepts to advanced research-level applications.
Target direct recall questions. For PG students, this includes scientific names, specific varieties, and foundational principles of your subject group (e.g., Plant Sciences, Agronomy).
Focus on Statement-based and Match-the-following questions. These are frequent in the PG exam and require careful reading of every option to avoid traps.
- Admit Card: Printed on A4 size paper with the Self-Declaration duly filled.
- Original Photo ID: Aadhaar (with photo), Passport, or PAN card. Digital copies are not valid.
- Extra Photograph: One passport-size photo to be pasted on the Attendance Sheet (must match the application photo).
- PwD Certificate: If applicable, carry the original certificate for verification.
As per NTA guidelines for Computer Based Tests (CBT), security is ultra-strict to ensure the integrity of the JRF awards:
- Apparel: Wear light-colored, half-sleeved clothing. Avoid jackets, hoodies, or any garment with large decorative buttons or numerous pockets.
- Footwear: Only thin-soled sandals or slippers. Shoes are strictly prohibited inside the examination hall.
- Jewelry/Tech: No rings, bangles, necklaces, or earrings. No digital or analog watches are allowed.
Since the PG exam often decides the availability of Stipends/Fellowships, the pressure can be intense. Remember:
- Normalization: If your shift's paper seems exceptionally hard, remember that normalization will balance the scores across different subject groups.
- Negative Marking: Avoid "wild guessing." Since 1/4th of a mark is deducted, only guess if you can confidently eliminate two options.
- The Technical Edge: Check your mouse and screen the moment you sit down. Report any flickering or hardware lag to the invigilator immediately.
