IGNOU Entrance Exam 2026: The Master Survival Guide
Strategic Roadmap for B.Ed, PhD, and Nursing Aspirants
PRO TIP: There is NO Negative Marking. Attempt all 100 questions!
1. Exam Pattern & Marking Breakdown

IGNOU entrance tests are typically 120 minutes long. The paper is usually divided into two main parts. Accuracy in Part A is often the tie-breaker for the final merit list.

Total Questions
100 MCQs
Correct Answer
+1 Mark
Wrong Answer
0 (No Penalty)
Medium
Hindi/English
2. Subject-Wise Success Blueprint
Part A: General Aptitude (Mental Ability & English)

Focus on Logical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension first. These are time-consuming but highly scoring if you don't rush the logic. Spend about 45 minutes here.

Part B: Teaching Aptitude / Subject Competence

This is where your professional instinct kicks in. For B.Ed, think from a student-centric perspective. For PhD, ensure your research methodology basics are iron-clad. Spend roughly 60 minutes here.

3. Mandatory Document Checklist
βœ” Hall Ticket: Printed copy of the Admit Card from the IGNOU/NTA portal.
βœ” Valid Photo ID: Original Aadhaar, PAN Card, or IGNOU Student ID (for in-service candidates).
βœ” Passport Photo: Two copies (same as uploaded) for the attendance sheet.
βœ” Confirmation Slip: If your admit card doesn't have a clear photo, carry your admission confirmation slip.
4. NTA Dress Code & Restricted Items
Strict Prohibitions: No mobile phones, digital watches, calculators, or jewelry.

Dress Protocol:
  • Wear light, half-sleeve clothes. Avoid large buttons or multi-pocket trousers (cargo).
  • Footwear: Slippers or thin-soled sandals are mandatory. Shoes/Boots are not allowed inside the CBT labs.
  • Accessories: Avoid hair clips, metallic bands, or heavy charms.
5. The "Buffer-Time" Strategy

Since the exam is CBT (Computer Based Test), use the last 15 minutes for a "Sweeping Pass."

  • Check the "Question Palette" on the right side of your screen.
  • Any question that is NOT Green needs an answer. Since there is no negative marking, even a calculated guess is better than leaving it blank.
  • Verify your Enrollment Number and Program Code on the digital interface before final submission.
