NCHM JEE 2026: The Ultimate Exam Day Guide
Your Gateway to India's Premier Institute of Hotel Management (IHM)
1. Understanding the Exam Architecture

The NCHM JEE is a 3-hour (180 minutes) Computer Based Test. Unlike engineering or medical exams, NCHM JEE prioritizes English and Service Aptitude. Every correct answer gives you +4 marks, while every incorrect one costs you -1 mark.

60 Qs English Language
50 Qs Service Aptitude
30 Qs Gen. Knowledge
30 Qs Reasoning/Math
2. The "Service Aptitude" Secret
Important Note: This section is unique. It tests your moral compass and hospitality instincts.

Strategy: Always choose the most professional, polite, and helpful response. If a guest is angry, the answer that involves "listening and solving" is usually the correct one. In previous years, this section had graded marking (4, 3, 2, 1 marks), but always check the latest NTA instructions on screen for 2026.
3. Subject-Specific Time Management

With 200 questions and only 180 minutes, you have less than 1 minute per question. Use this breakdown:

  • GK & Current Affairs (15 Mins): Either you know it or you don't. Don't linger.
  • Service Aptitude (25 Mins): Focus on reading the scenarios carefully.
  • English Language (50 Mins): High weightage. Spend time on Reading Comprehension.
  • Reasoning & Math (60 Mins): Save the calculation-heavy questions for the second half of the exam.
  • Buffer (30 Mins): For review and difficult questions.
4. NTA Security & Mandatory Documents
Entry doors close exactly 30 minutes before the exam starts. If the exam is at 9:00 AM, the gate closes at 8:30 AM. No exceptions.
  • Admit Card: Printout with a passport-size photo pasted (same as application).
  • Valid ID: Original Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, or Driving License.
  • Self-Declaration: Duly signed (Undertaking) regarding COVID/Health as per NTA.
  • Personal Items: Only a transparent water bottle and a simple ballpoint pen are allowed.
5. Dress Code for Aspiring Hoteliers

NTA maintains strict guidelines to prevent cheating. While you are heading for a hospitality exam, dress for comfort, not a job interview:

Do Wear: Half-sleeve T-shirts, simple trousers, leggings, or kurtas with small buttons.
Don't Wear: Shoes (Wear slippers/sandals), full-sleeved shirts, heavy jewelry, or watches (digital or analog). The computer screen will have a timer.

"Hospitality is about making your guests feel at home. Today, make yourself at home with the exam interface and stay calm!"
